An interactive opportunity for attendees to understand the psychologist’s unique role in the treatment of children/adolescents with autism spectrum disorder through the developmental/relational therapy known as DIR/Floor Time. Adaptations of this best practice model will be examined through clinical footage. Attendees will be encouraged to present their own cases for further understanding of this treatment model.

Esther Hess, Ph.D. is a developmental psychologist and executive director of a multidisciplinary treatment facility in Los Angeles, CA, Center for the Developing Mind. Dr. Hess specializes in the treatment of developmental/regulatory disorders in children, adolescents and young adults. In addition to being a national and international speaker on autism spectrum disorder, Dr. Hess has authored several play therapy chapters on the subject and this past summer had her first children’s book published Alfie, You and Me are Twins: The Life and Times of a Therapy Dog, Amazon Press, 2020. Course Goals and Educational Objectives:

1. Attendees will become familiar with indications of sensory processing and social-emotional challenges in the play of children/adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.
2. Attendees will learn the best practice DIR/Floor Time model of play techniques used to support specific sensory processing challenges and how to facilitate emotional regulation and expression in children/adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.
3. Those attending this conference will be taught an introduction to the DIR/Floor Time model of play therapy to facilitate adaptive interpersonal relationships in families with children/adolescents impacted with interactive disorders, regulatory challenges or developmental delays.

Those who attend the workshop in its entirety, sign in and out through the Zoom Chat, and complete the evaluation, will receive 1.5 CE credits. CE Certificates will be emailed within two weeks of the program

Please note; that LACPA Student, Post-Doc/Pre-Licensed, and Disabled members are not granted CE Credits.

APA CE rules require that we only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop.

Those who arrive 15 minutes past the start time or leave before the workshop is complete will not receive CE credits.
