LACPA’s Child and Adolescent SIG welcomes Jessica Miller, MSW, Former Head of School for students who learn differently and current consultant.

LACPA’s Child and Adolescent SIG will host a panel discussion about Complex Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (CLDD).

TopicComplex Learning Difficulties and Disabilities

 

Children and young people with CLDD present with a range of issues and combination of layered needs (e.g., mental health, relationships, behavioral, physical, medical, sensory, communication and cognitive issues).  This panel discussion will elaborate on CLDDs and implications for support at home, school, and as individuals with CLDDs transition into young adulthood.   

 

Daniel Franklin, PhD, BCET, is the author of Helping Your Child with Language-Based Learning Disabilities (2018).  He holds a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Reading, Language, and Learning Disabilities, a PhD from UCLA in Education, and he is a Board Certified Educational Therapist (BCET). Daniel has over 30 years of experience in education as an educational therapist, teacher, administrator, and educational consultant. Daniel is the founder, president, and clinical director of Franklin Educational Services, Inc.

 

Jessica Miller, MSW, has worked in education, health care and human service organizations for over 40 years.  Jessica holds a BS in Elementary Education from Northwestern University and an MSW from The University of Chicago.   Throughout her career, Jessica has focused on children with special needs and their families.  Her work includes research, training, consultation, and administrative positions. Jessica is the Founding Head of the Wolf School, a school in Rhode Island for complex learners, and most recently she has served as the Head of Charles Armstrong School, a school for students with dyslexia in the Bay Area. Jessica is currently working as a consultant for the Riverview School on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

 

A parent of a child with CLDD will likely be joining this panel.
