Hello LACPA,
February is Black History Month. In a time when Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives are being challenged or reduced in many spaces, it is more important than ever to reaffirm our commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering inclusivity. We take this opportunity to honor and celebrate Black History Month—a time to recognize the remarkable contributions, resilience, and achievements of Black individuals throughout history and in our communities today. Here are a few resources and please feel free to join us in sharing more.

Abstract:
The number of older adults is expected to increase to approximately 95 million by 2060. The proportion of BIPOC >65 is expected to increase to 42% of all older adults. The number of older adults who experience SMI is expected to surpass 15 million in 2030. The number of BIPOC Older adults with SMI is expected to increase especially when factoring experiences of trauma from racism/discrimination over time. This CE will focus on the use of evidence- based psychotherapy with older African Americans and highlight culture and aspects of intersectionality that should be prioritized when providing mental health treatment for these individuals.
