SIG TopicMotivational Interviewing: Helping Patients Engage in ERP Treatment

For clinicians using exposure and response prevention to treat OCD and anxiety disorders, patient motivation can often present an issue. This makes sense, since treatment involves systematic exposure to fears. The exposure itself is for the most part straightforward, the challenge is helping your patient build the intrinsic motivation to engage in them. Understanding the nuances of patient motivation and the change process in general is critical to treatment success. This presentation will address Motivational Interviewing and how it applies to OCD and anxiety treatment.
