Abstract:
Contrary to popular belief, perfectionism is not a virtue or a compliment and it can be a common trait seen in OCD, no matter the sub-type. Ultimately, perfectionism becomes part of the vicious cycle of OCD. By understanding how perfectionism shows up in the OCD cycle, treatment includes exposure so as to do things imperfectly, sit with discomfort, and ultimately feel unstuck and empowered.

Dr. Menije is a licensed psychologist and founder of the Embracing You Therapy practice in Los Angeles, CA. She has been treating OCD and OCD Spectrum Disorders since 2012. She completed the Behavioral Training offered by the International OCD Foundation’s Training Institute in 2019. Dr. Menije knows that her clients can bust out of their comfort zone, take ownership of their dreams, and create a new sense of self. She is also passionate about ways to overcome Perfectionism and has launched Perfectionism University, an online platform for self-help courses.
