...We worked collaboratively with the California Psychological Association (“CPA”) in our annual “Lobby Day” trek to Sacramento to connect with legislators in support of key mental health and professional standards initiatives. There will also be a conjoint CPA-LACPA presence in the LA Gay Pride Parade on June 8th.

We continue to celebrate our 80th anniversary by joining with multicultural festivities such as the marking of the advent of Spring and the new year for Persian and other Middle Eastern cultures at a Nowruz celebration in March.

Our Annual Convention, which has moved from the Fall to the Spring (May 3rd), celebrated joy with training by Dr. Mellin regarding methods to return to a homeostatic state from less adaptive, stressed states. We networked and visited with each other for a couple of hours, accompanied by a terrific jazz trio led by guitarist George Gilliam. He and his wife Elana, a jazz singer, also run a non-profit agency for developmentally disabled adults focused on music and other creative arts called Creative Identity.  Our operations staff, Bekah Finch and Adriene Ghiasian, worked with The Los Angeles Psychologist designer David Ilan to produce a truly delightful 80th celebration “yearbook” for the attendees—a keepsake with our history, member commentary and 80 photos from our archives.

I am pleased to report that we remain a vibrant volunteer-based organization.  I would also like to encourage those of you who would like to become part of a supportive community of engaged professionals to step into leadership roles, and participate in our many events.
